Gitea is a self-hosted Git service under MIT license, with an integrated CI/CD system (Gitea Actions) that's syntax-compatible with GitHub Actions, package registry support for 20+ formats, and runs on Linux, Windows, macOS, FreeBSD, and Kubernetes across x86 and arm64. SQLite is a supported database, which is the part that still warms my 1983 heart — a single binary and a file is a legitimate architecture again. The page is a sales funnel for the two paid tiers: Gitea Cloud (managed) and Enterprise at $9.50/user/month with a one-year commitment, buying SAML SSO, audit logs, autoscaling Kubernetes runners, and an SLA. The free self-hosted tier keeps everything a practitioner actually touches: repos, pull requests, Actions, packages. Numbers check out to healthy open source scale: 54K stars, 400K+ installations, 1,425 contributors. That's not vapor. The GitHub Actions compatibility is the strategically clever bit — you can reuse thousands of existing actions while removing the dependency on the mothership, which has been known to sunset products out from under people. I won't say by whom. Sundar knows what he did. Worth noting: 2 hours from download to Windows service with AD integration, per one testimonial. That tracks with the project's reputation for being boring in the best way.
